A comprehensive approach

Our rehabilitation work starts with a detailed assessment by our skilled physiotherapy team. Whether the child is recovering from surgery, coping with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, clubfoot, or recovering from injuries or burns, our team develops an individualized care plan. This plan focuses on improving movement, balance, strength, and functional independence — always adapted to the child’s specific needs and abilities.

Beyond the body: mental and emotional well-being

Physical challenges often bring emotional burdens. Many of the children we serve have faced stigma, isolation, or exclusion in their communities. That’s why we integrate mental and psychosocial support into our rehabilitation work. Through encouragement, play, group activities, and counseling when needed, we help children rebuild confidence and social skills. We also work closely with caregivers, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to support their child’s journey at home.

Family and community at the center

Rehabilitation doesn’t end at the center’s gate. We train parents and caregivers in simple exercises and disability management techniques they can use at home. We also engage local schools and community leaders to promote understanding, acceptance, and inclusion — so that every child has the chance to thrive not only physically, but as a valued member of their community.

Limited Access to Healthcare Services

The health services in northern Uganda are generally underdeveloped, which affects children with disabilities particularly hard. Access to rehabilitation services such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy is limited, and a lack of specialists and diagnostic equipment makes the situation even more challenging. Additionally, financial barriers prevent many families from seeking healthcare when needed.
