The Patient Journey

Comprehensive Rehabilitation to Provide Equal Opportunity

At the heart of our work are the children and families we serve. Every child’s story is unique, but the path they follow with us has common milestones — from the first meeting to the day they return home stronger, more confident, and ready to thrive.

1. First Contact: Finding Their Way to Us

Families come to us in different ways. Many arrive during our weekly Open Clinic Days, where parents and caregivers bring their children for a free assessment. Others meet us during community outreach visits, when our team travels to remote villages to identify children in need of rehabilitation. And one of our most powerful referral networks? Parents of former patients, who help spread the word in their communities about the life-changing services we provide.

2. Understanding Needs: The Types of Disabilities We Work With

  • We serve children with a wide range of disabilities, typically grouped into three broad categories:

    • Neurological disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or developmental delays.

    • Orthopaedic conditions, including clubfoot, limb deformities, or untreated fractures.

    • Reconstructive needs, often from untreated burns, contractures, or birth defects.

Understanding each child’s condition helps us design a care plan that addresses their medical, physical, and social needs.

3. Assessment and Individual Plan

After the initial visit, our multidisciplinary team — physiotherapists, social workers,  and educators — conducts a full assessment. Together with the family, we develop a personalized rehabilitation plan. We always make sure that parents are active participants in planning and decision-making, building trust and ensuring long-term success.

4. Rehabilitation and Care

The child begins rehabilitation at our center. Depending on their needs, they may:

  • Receive physiotherapy and mobility training

  • Use assistive devices like braces or walkers

  • Join catch-up education classes to prepare for school reintegration

  • Participate in social and recreational activities that build confidence and resilience

Parents and caregivers are trained in basic rehabilitation techniques, empowering them to continue the child’s care at home.

5. Preparing for Reintegration

As the child progresses, we help the family prepare for reintegration back home, into school, and into community life. Our team may visit the family’s home or village to ensure that schools, neighbors, and relatives are ready to welcome the child back and that they have the support they need.

6. Follow-Up and Long-Term Support

We know that rehabilitation doesn’t end at discharge. We stay connected through regular follow-ups, home visits, and school monitoring. Families can return to the center for check-ups, device adjustments, or additional therapy as needed. We’re in it for the long run.

Why It Matters

This journey transforms more than just the child. Children gain mobility, independence, and a sense of belonging. Parents gain knowledge, hope, and confidence. And communities begin to see children with disabilities not as burdens, but as valued, contributing members of society.

For us, every step — from the first handshake to the joyful return home — is part of building a more inclusive and hopeful future.
